A busy day…yeah right

There’s a slight flaw in the plan where the hotel is concerned. There are two electronic buttons inside the room, one depicting do not disturb and another requesting for the room to be serviced. Obviously we didn’t want an enthusiastic cleaner waking us up after our first night, so highlighted the necessary button. No disturbances. So when we’d set out for our big day of lounging around on the sunbeds, we set the service my room button. We were a little surprised it hadn’t been done when we returned to our room. Nick eyed me suspiciously in that way that says are you sure you set the button? What can be hard about pressing a button? However, within seconds, I of course doubted myself. Then the penny dropped. I turned the button on again, but this time took the door card out of the slot that operates everything in the room. Within moments the light went out and so the cleaner on the outside of our room couldn’t see we needed doing. The only way they know you need your room cleaning is for us to be in the room with the door card in the slot. Bizarre. Within moments though the cleaner arrived to do the honours. Ok, so I’m beginning to think the old fashioned method of hanging these two standard requests on the door handle is not so daft after all.
However, the one rather delightful thing the hotel has right about its design is the view from the shower. The Indian Ocean.
We tried in vain, to converse at dinner last night. I found I was repeating myself frequently because of the din from the constant crashing waves. It really is the most exquisite environment, if loud. It’s a shame not to be able to sleep with the doors open and focus on that sound, (as it sure would drown out my snorey bloke), but it is so muggy that we need the aircon on at night.

This morning was a cool 25 degrees, overcast with big splattery rain drops, but breakfast was still on the terrace and contained all the essential food groups…fruit, thick coffee, freshly pressed fruit juice. The coffee at this hotel is very gritty and as black as the ace of spades, but strangely not very strong. It’s lovely.
The very smiley cleaner approached us at breakfast asking if we wanted our room to be done. Yes please. Clearly the button in the bedroom is a complete waste of time. There was much fanfare and with the aid of a happy helper, we are now the proud owners of a peacock created from towels, tissues and flowers on our bed.
This morning has been spent on our balcony, reading, listening to the crashing waves and avoiding the rain. However, after beer o’clock Nick announced he was ready for a walk. I looked a little open-mouthed. Ok, so it turned out to be more of an amble or even something slower than that, (if that’s possible) to the other end of our very empty beach. We spent ages just gazing at this beautiful spot of Sri Lanka that we have the pleasure of experiencing for a few days. After our “strenuous“ exercise it was time for some serious cloud bathing. The mugginess has returned now the rain has gone. Another perfect day in paradise.

Sounds a smart move to keep the last few days 'low 'key'. Looks like you've had an exhausting time so far.
